KYRGYZ FELT FROM ANCIENT CRAFT TO CONTEMPORARY ART IN THE WORLD OF FASHION AND DESIGN

Abstract

This article explores the evolution of Kyrgyz felt art from its traditional use in nomadic culture to its modern application in the world of fashion and design. The symbolic and practical significance of felt products in the past, as well as their revival as a unique, environmentally friendly material in the modern world, is analyzed. The article examines how traditional techniques, such as the creation of shyrdaks and ala-kiyiz, are transformed in the hands of modern designers, turning into exclusive clothing, accessories and interior items. Particular attention is paid to the role of felt in preserving cultural identity and its potential in the development of the creative economy of Kyrgyzstan. This article examines the cultural, aesthetic, and socioeconomic aspects of the development of felt production in the context of globalization. It notes that the material's eco-friendliness, unique texture, and handcrafted craftsmanship contribute to the international recognition of Kyrgyz felt, its inclusion in the collections of global designers, and its participation in prestigious exhibitions. The article demonstrates how this traditional craft successfully adapts to modern demands while preserving its cultural value.
