The article considers the integration of cultural heritage into the educational program on industrial design through an integrated multidisciplinary approach. The emphasis is placed on the importance of including Kazakh cultural elements – such as traditional symbols and significant works by Abylkhan Kasteev – in the design curriculum, which contributes to the continuity of historical and modern design practices. This approach is aimed at deepening students' understanding of their cultural identity, building respect for heritage and its importance in modern design.
The research uses project-based learning and case analysis as the main methodologies, providing students with practical experience working with Kazakh folk art, tamgas and broad traditions of Central Asian art. Experimental and practical activities, including an in-depth analysis of Kasteev's artistic techniques and the development of branding projects inspired by tamgas, stimulate students to creatively apply cultural heritage in modern design contexts.
The results show that the integration of cultural heritage into the educational process of design significantly increases the cultural awareness of students, enriches their design perspectives and increases engagement. Students note a closer connection with their heritage and demonstrate greater creativity in projects involving cultural narratives. These findings highlight the potential of a culturally integrated curriculum to generate designers who are culturally aware and innovative, ultimately enriching the field of design with perspectives based on heritage and identity.
